The Campaign From This Point On

I've been hearing and reading that John McCain and Starburst Palin will spend the rest of the campaign smearing Barack Obama and attacking his character and patriotism. No real surprises there. I just want to make a couple comments at this particular crossroad in the campaign.

First, as I have written about extensively, If McCain wins through a strategy of lying, smearing and unfairly attacking, he will inherit a nation divided and unwilling to follow him or any other President in the future. The spirit of Democracy, which is what holds us together as a nation, will have been irrevocably destroyed. If McCain wins in this way, he will be The Last American President.

Second, note that Barack Obama, at this moment, leads in the polls and must be considered to be the favorite to win the election. In fact, if the election were held today, he would be the easy winner. So, if McCain comes back, it would be fair to say it will because of the lies, smears and attacks.

Don't do it John. For once in your life, try to live up to your self hype. Put the country first instead of your own self interests. Run on the issues and win or lose on their merits.
